Earn Your Pilot Certificate in a Light Sport Aircraft in Boise, Idaho

FAA rules have implemented the sport pilot certificate, sport pilot instructor certificate (CFI-S), and light sport aircraft (LSA), offering a variety of opportunities for people from different backgrounds to participate in recreational flying.

This initiative has set a new baseline for both flying and teaching, accommodating people from all age groups.

At the same time, it has opened doors for flight instructors to collaborate with both beginners and seasoned pilots, and has simplified the pathway for pilots to enter the realm of flight instruction.

Light Sport Training Highlights

  • Sport pilot regulations now mandate a minimum of only 20 hours, so you can cut the cost of obtaining a private pilot license by as much as 50%!
  • If a CFI’s certificate allows instruction in single-engine airplanes, they are already qualified to instruct sport pilots in light sport aircraft.
  • The privileges afforded by a sport pilot certificate are explained in detail in 14 CFR §61.315
  • The sport pilot rules, particularly under “Subpart K,” provide a new avenue for pilots to become flight instructors without the need for instrument and commercial training or a medical certificate. This means that pilots can become a CFI-S (light sport) in as little as 150 hours.
